Who We're Looking For:
Falcon Fire is looking for individuals who are willing to work hard, learn new skills, and reflect the district’s core values of Pride, Respect, and Community.
Applicants for reserve (volunteer) firefighter positions must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Possess a High School Diploma or GED
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Have a clean criminal record
The Application Process:
Reserve firefighter applicants will undergo a background check and participate in an interview as part of the selection process. Those who are selected will complete a recruit training academy. The exact training schedule for academies will be announced, but it will likely include at least one evening per week and all day every Saturday for 12-16 weeks. Reserve firefighter recruits must pass all quizzes, tests, and practical skills exams, as well as certification tests for Firefighter I, Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Awareness, HazMat Operations, S-130/190 Basic Wildland Firefighting, and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 courses. In addition, recruits are expected to pass the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) by the end of the recruit academy. Upon successful completion of the academy and certification tests, reserve firefighter recruits will be provided and expected to complete the following within two years: Job Performance Requirement (JPR) workbooks for Firefighter I and Firefighter II; Driver Operator Utility certification; Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) certification; and a Reservist Task Book.
Reservists are expected to complete a minimum of three 12-hour shifts per month. The District provides a stipend to reservists for up to ten 12-hour shifts per month. Upon completion of the reservist task book, reservists then become eligible for part time or full time positions.
Full time line personnel follow a 48-96 schedule. Firefighters follow a class ranking system for promotion. Firefighters also have the ability to promote to Driver/Operator and Officer positions given additional training and successful completion of state certification requirements. Paramedics are hired almost exclusively for EMS and patient transport functions on the department ambulances. Paramedics also follow a class ranking system for promotion.
